In this task, candidates have to first read a given passage that may be on any topic. After reading they have to listen an audio recording discussing the same task. After this their final work begins and that is to write a detailed summary of what they have heard and read.
The supervisor can also ask for explaining the important points that are actually related to the topic and can help in the improvement of topic in the future. In addition to this, it may also be asked of the candidates to give their personal views on the topic. There are few conditions that candidates have to fulfill. The most common condition is to write the summary within the given word limit.
Along with an explanation, sometimes they have to define or to state the summary as well. Sometime they are also given rebate topics and why they will be asked to write in its favor or in oppose to that.
In this, the candidates are given any general topic and they have to write an essay of around 300 words on it. This helps the experts in knowing the level of thinking of candidates and how better a candidate can convert ideas into reality. There is a time limit in this task and within the given time candidates have to write the given essay.
If any candidate doesn’t complete the essay in the given time period, his/her candidature may either be canceled or less scores are given to him depending on up to which extent and what he/she has written.
There is one most important thing about the TOEFL writing that any candidate going for this test has to keep in mind. In writing module sometime what happen is that four passages are given to the candidates rather than three and they have to go for any three. One among the four passages is not considered while giving scores.
The candidates are informed by the exam supervisor about this but they don’t know which passage will not be considered. This commonly happens when the overall candidates are more than actual need. No candidates are allowed to work on all four passages. Like other modules of the TOEFL test, this module also has a maximum score of 30.
The probability of success in TOEFL highly depends on writing preparation. Therefore knowing the pattern of writing including what to write and how to write is of prime importance. Never go to the negative side of the topic while writing in order to make your essay more creative
