ILETS and TOEFL are basically the English tests that are required if one wants to study abroad. Universities and schools in English countries want to make sure that one is coming to study in their institutions have better English language skills. People often ask that which one is better among TOEFL and IELTS and for which one they have to go.
The answer of this question totally depends on where a person wants to study.
The TOEFL is administered by the ETS for those who want to study in American universities and school. Some universities of Canada’s well require qualified score in TOEFL from foreign students to give them admission. On the other hand IELTS is administrated by the council of British. All universities of England demand that the foreign candidates must go through IELTS before taking admission in their institutions or campuses.
Some other countries where admission in universities and colleges are based on IELTS score are Australia and New Zealand. In addition to this, some Canadian universities also consider IELTS as valid.
Both ILETS and TOEFL have four primary modules and they are reading, writing, listening and speaking of English however their format is not same. In IELTS not all the passages are necessary to read before answering questions.
TOELF commonly have multiple choice questions in it while on the other side there are no multiple choice questions in IELTS but one has to write the answer with explanation. Because the answer lies in the given passage and the candidates just have to find them with concentration, so IELTS is better if one has better concentration level.
TOEFL is based on US English whereas IELTS is based on British English. This is something that can also help in selecting one among TOEFL and IELTS. Obviously ILETS is a wise decision if you are better in British English while TOEFL is better if you are used to American English.
Maximum and minimum scores
TOEFL is a test that has maximum score of 120 and minimum score require qualifying it is 61. The minimum qualification score in TOEFL depends upon one university to another. On the other hand, IELTS have maximum 9 scores or points. To qualify this test, minimum requirement of points is 5. Just like TOEFL, minimum score to qualify IELTS are also not same for all the universities.
In TOEFL, the instructions to attempt all the questions are same while in IELTS one has to follow different instructions to answer different questions. TOEFLS is also considered as better for those who doesn’t have better presentation skills in them. This is mainly because of the reason that no one listen you when you speak in this test and your response will only be recorded.
On the other hand IELTS speaking module is conducted in the presence of native candidates. This may sometime become a reason for nervousness and lack of confidence for some candidates.
To know which test actually suits you, it is better to collect all useful information about both of them. Study the collected information and then decide which one is better for you. Go for the one about which you think that it will be easy for you.
